Your clinician checks your ears before treatment and will only continue where it is appropriate and comfortable to do so. Care is provided by a fully insured, HCPC registered professional.
When to book
Ear wax can affect hearing, comfort and confidence, especially when it blocks the ear canal or interferes with hearing aids.
How it works
Micro suction uses a small suction device to remove wax while the clinician views the ear canal clearly. It is different from syringing because the ear is not filled with water.
We look inside the ear canal first and explain whether wax removal is suitable.
Wax is removed using gentle suction under direct visualisation. No water is flushed into the ear.
You leave with practical advice, aftercare and guidance if a hearing test or GP review is more appropriate.
Why patients choose it
The right approach depends on your ear health history, symptoms and what can be seen during examination.
Dry suction under direct visualisation
No water used
Often suitable where irrigation is not advised
Water is flushed into the ear canal
Uses water pressure
Not suitable for some ear histories
If you can safely use drops, apply olive oil or EAROL twice daily for 3-5 days before your appointment. This helps soften wax and can make removal more comfortable.
Avoid using cotton buds or ear candles. If you have pain, discharge, recent ear surgery or have been told not to use drops, contact us before using anything in the ear.
Micro suction is widely used in professional ear care, but every ear is different. We check for signs such as infection, inflammation, surgical history, perforation risk or tenderness before deciding whether treatment should go ahead.
If wax cannot be removed safely in one visit, we will explain why and advise on the most sensible next step.
Not sure what to book?
Answer a few quick questions about blocked ears, pain, discharge, hearing changes and ear history. The checker will guide you towards micro suction, an ear health check, a phone call or medical advice.

Common signs include blocked ears, muffled hearing, fullness, discomfort, tinnitus or dizziness linked to wax build-up. We check your ears before treatment and explain what we can see.
Micro suction is a dry method and does not flush water into the ear canal. It is often suitable for people who cannot have irrigation, although your clinician will always assess your ears first.
Softening drops can make wax easier to remove. We usually recommend olive oil or EAROL twice daily for 3-5 days before your appointment, unless you have been advised not to use drops.
A typical appointment is around 30 minutes. This includes checking both ears, explaining the findings and removing wax where it is safe and appropriate to do so.
Yes. You can book directly with Comforts Hearing online or by phone. If your symptoms suggest infection or another medical concern, we will advise you on the next step.
If wax is very hard, deep or uncomfortable to remove, we may recommend more softening and a follow-up appointment rather than forcing the procedure.
